Welcome to Pacific Eye Doctors. We’d love to see you as our patient.
Our Comprehensive Eye Exams always include an extensive case history, assessment of visual acuities, binocular vision, refraction, as well as external and internal health evaluation.
BC Medical Services Plan contributes $47.08 towards eye exams for children up to age 18, seniors beginning at age 65, and for those with special medical need of all ages. You only pay the patient portion of the eye exam, which is the difference.
The patient portion for pediatric/kids exams starts at $22
The patient portion for seniors exams starts at $72.92
The patient portion for adult exams that are medically eligible starts at $7292
The patient portion for adult exams that are not medically eligible starts at $120
We offer our patients additional, optional tests, which may help in earlier detection of diseases. There are additional costs for these tests if you choose to proceed.
Adults: In advocating the highest standard of eye care, we recommend the following two optional tests be included as a baseline comprehensive adult exam:
1. $38 OCT Laser Scan: In-depth cross section of the most valuable aspects of your eye, the macula and fovea. It takes 53,000 scans per second to allow us to investigate individual retinal layers for early detection of macular degeneration, macular holes, diabetic retinopathy, membranes, glaucoma, and more.
Recommended:
- First time visit to serve as a baseline.
- If you have concerns of macular degeneration, glaucoma, or visual distortion.
- Those with macular issues: every year.
2. $20 Visual Field Screening: This maps the peripheral field of vision of each eye. This test answers the question of whether there are areas of your vision that are not as sensitive as it is for others in your age demographic. This is valuable in the early detection of many diseases such as glaucoma, certain brain tumours, and optic nerve disease.
Recommended:
- First visit as a baseline.
For specific concerns, e.g. concussion, unusual headaches, & neurological symptoms.
Pediatric/Kids: In advocating for the highest standard of eye care for your child, we recommend Ultra-Wide Field Retinal Imaging (after age 5) be included with their exam.
1. $22 Ultra-wide Field Retinal Image: This becomes a permanent record of your child’s current eye condition. Over the years, changes can be detected as we reference this baseline image. (This technology was actually created by a father whose young son had a peripheral retinal tear and detachment.)
Recommended:
- Beginning age 5 once as a baseline.
- Then every few years, especially after head or eye trauma
- E.g. concussions.
2. $20 Visual Field Screening: This maps the peripheral field of vision of each eye. Are there areas of your child’s vision that are not as sensitive compared to others in the same age demographic? (This is valuable in the early detection of many diseases such as glaucoma, brain tumours, and optic nerve disease. For pediatrics, it’s most often used for neurological symptoms like headaches.)
Recommended:
- Earliest testing at age 8
- For specific concerns, e.g. concussion, unusual headaches, & neurological symptoms
