Believing in Something Bigger Than Us
Environmental Stewardship at Pacific Eye Doctors
At Pacific Eye Doctors, we firmly believe that even optometrists have a part to play in taking care of our planet. Our dedication to being responsible stewards of the environment is evident in every aspect of our operations, from the materials we select to the way we manage our facilities. Below, you can explore the measures we take to reduce our environmental impact and foster sustainability within our community.
Sustainable Sourcing & Longevity
We are dedicated to sourcing high-quality products that are built to last, which reduces the need for frequent replacements and helps reduce waste. We also consider purchasing pre-owned items, such as office furniture and equipment, to extend their lifecycle and minimize the demand for new resources. Our commitment also extends to repairs. We believe in repeatedly fixing items to extend their usability rather than discarding them.
Thoughtful Disposal & Recycling
Throwing items away is our last resort; instead, we strive to find someone else who can benefit from what we no longer need. For instance, we pass on used eyeglasses to developing countries, giving these items a second life and assisting those in need. We also make recycling a top priority within our practice. We make sure to correctly process all recyclable materials, including contact lenses, foil packaging, and everyday office supplies. Furthermore, even our administrative papers are printed on both sides before they are placed in the recycling bin.
Minimizing Waste & Reducing Consumption
We are committed to reducing our overall consumption, which means using fewer resources and opting for reusable or sustainable alternatives whenever possible. Our staff is encouraged to make environmentally conscious decisions on a daily basis, like bringing reusable water bottles and avoiding single-use plastics. Furthermore, in our edging lab, we have installed a nylon filter to prevent microplastics from entering the water system, thus further reducing our environmental impact.
Energy Conservation & Water Management
Energy efficiency is a top priority at Pacific Eye Doctors. In the summer, our team wears cool clothing to minimize the need for air conditioning. Similarly, during the winter, we bundle up to reduce our reliance on heating. This simple practice allows us to lower our energy consumption throughout the year. Additionally, we offer a water dispenser for both staff and patients, encouraging the use of refillable containers and reducing our reliance on single-use plastic bottles.
